I remember one of my very first volunteer experiences as an usher. He was security. To me, that meant he was a tough dude. I was a whole of about 8 or 10 years old. I thought, if anyone could protect me in case of an emergency, it was this guy! As he was talking to me about how to keep the aisle, I remember how soothing and gentle his voice was. He said, all we need to do is focus on the message and the rest will be fine. I'm 36 now. Any time I volunteer, I remember Kurt-tough dude means gentle warrior. Missing you.
